Saving and Improve Battery Life for Android


We know that Android phones have many top features. And it requires more power. In result, the Android contributes to a phone short battery life. Some users are good to go with this issue as they need to recharge their device every time, but some people are frustrated by it.

We found some ways to disable some of Android features to save battery life. Some might argue that this method makes Android crippled but some might also find this helpful.

Here they are 14 tips to save your Android device’s battery (We are using HTC Desire as sample)

1.Disable Always-On Mobile Data
This always-on option is default, but you can do disable it from Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Enable-disable always-on mobile data as it will decrease the battery use.

2.Turn off Wireless Network Positioning
You can change this option from Settings > Location > Use wireless networks. Using GPS surely will drain your battery; use it only when you need it badly instead you use Assisted GPS.

3.Always Keep Bluetooth off When Not in Use
You can disable it from Settings > Wireless & networks > Bluetooth. Bluetooth is obviously draining your battery if you keep it on all the time.

4.Turn Down the Screen Brightness
If your phone support it, always have the Automatic brightness option activated, you can do it from Settings > Screen & display > Brightness. If your phone is not support this, adjust the brightness as low as however fits you.

5.Set the Screen Timeout at a Maximum of 1 Minute
You can do it from Settings > Screen & display > Screen timeout to save battery.

6.Avoid Live Wallpapers
Animated wallpaper will keep the processor working all the time and it will drain your battery.

7.If Your Device Has an AMOLED Display, a Dark Wallpaper Will Use Less Power.

8.Turn off Wi-Fi
You can turn it off from Settings > Wireless networks > Wi-Fi. If you don’t use it you better turn it off because it will suck up quite a lot of battery life.

9.If You’re Inside a lot, Having Wi-Fi Always On May be Preferable
Since 3G radio use more ammount of energy, so if you are always on hotspot area you can use your Wi-Fi instead of your 3G network. Go to Settings > Wireless networks > Wi-Fi Settings. Press the Menu button, tap on Advanced, Wi-Fi sleep policy and select the Never option.

10.If Your Phone Often Struggles to Find a 3G Connection, Disable 3G
Keep searching on 3G connection will drain your battery. You can do this from Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Network mode > GSM only.

11.Use Widgets Wisely
Terminate widgets that are unnecessary will save your battery life.

12.Streaming Apps Will Kill Your Battery
Audio or video streaming application will decrease you battery life fast.

13.Find Out What Has Been Using the Battery
Go to Settings > About phone > Battery > Battery use, and tap on the items in the list to get information on what application that has been using a lot of power.

14.Set a Reasonable Frequency for Background Updates
Set proper frequency update, to save battery by not always automatically searching updates besides what you need it the most as you can look for it when you need them, Such as:

- The HTC Mail Client, pressing Menu, and then entering More > Settings > Send & receive > Set download frequency. The default is 15 minutes, set to longer frequency.

- The HTC Weather App, set them to update every six hour.

- Facebook, Flickr and Twitter, You can control the various refresh intervals from Settings > Accounts & sync if you wish set it to longer intervals.

- Third-Party Apps, some of these apps always connect to internet by default, if you think it is unnecessary you can turn it off.

Though I still unable to make the HTC battery life comparable to my N97, but by doing these tips my HTC surely lived longer. Definitely works out for me, what about you?
